# Aloud

Aloud is a Shopify accessibility service that fixes screen-reader, keyboard, contrast and ADA/WCAG problems in your theme code, not with an overlay widget.

## What we do

Blind shoppers use screen readers that read a store aloud. On many Shopify stores, cart, search and add to cart come out as just "link" or "button". Aloud fixes those labels, alt text, buttons, contrast and keyboard access in the theme itself.

An accessibility overlay (the Shopify apps that add a toolbar) sits on top of a store. The broken theme code stays broken. In 2025 the FTC fined accessiBe $1M for claiming its widget made sites WCAG-compliant.

## How it works

1. Free scan of the homepage and a product page. Results by email, usually within a day, with screenshots.
2. One free fix on a copy of the theme so the merchant sees the change first.
3. They pick a plan, or keep the free fix and walk away.
4. Remaining issues are fixed and re-tested. 50% is paid to start, 50% after the re-test report.

No Shopify password. The merchant shares a 4-digit collaborator code. Work is on a duplicate theme. Nothing goes live until they press publish.

## Pricing (USD)

- Starter: $399 one time, stores up to 100 products. Up to 8 templates, up to 100 product photo descriptions, dated re-test report.
- Full store: $899 one time. Every template, up to 500 photo descriptions, manual keyboard and screen-reader testing, accessibility statement page, dated re-test report.
- Monitoring: $49/month after Starter or Full. Monthly re-scan, new issues fixed up to 2 hours a month, cancel any time.
- Extra photo descriptions: $0.50 each.

## ADA, EAA, WCAG

Aloud is not a law firm. US stores often get ADA demand letters that point at WCAG. The EU's European Accessibility Act has applied since June 2025 to stores selling to EU customers. The technical bar people use for both is WCAG 2.2 AA, which is what Aloud works to in the Shopify theme. A widget does not do that job.

## Honest answers

- A Shopify accessibility app / overlay is not enough. We change the theme. That is still not a legal guarantee.
- This is not a legal guarantee. No one can honestly promise a store will not be sued.
- Aloud is a technical accessibility service, not a law firm. Work is against WCAG 2.2 AA.
- Most fixes do not change how the store looks.
- Theme updates and new apps can undo fixes. That is what Monitoring is for.
